Mr. Martyn See, Executive Secretary, Singaporeans For Democracy (SFD), appeared before police investigations today for the second time over a private forum he organized on behalf of SFD on 24 September 2011.

Inspector S. Vickneshwaran of the Central Police Division informed Mr. See that getting a foreigner to talk at a private forum may tantamount to an offence if it is done without any clearance. Read more »

Singapore’s official censor, Media Development Authority (MDA), yesterday approved and rated all 6 films submitted for Singaporeans For Democracy's (SFD) annual human rights event – Freedom Film Fest.

Freedom Film Fest 2011 Singapore

The Freedom Film Fest was initiated by Malaysian NGO Pusat Komas as a means to educate the public on the values of human rights. The festival's circuit in recent years has included Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, Perak and East Malaysia.

Due to our shared political and cultural history with Malaysia, Singaporeans For Democracy will host the Singapore leg of the festival again for the second year running. None of the films shown in the eight year history of FFF has been censored or banned by the Malaysian Government. Read more »

Police take 5 months to release SFD members from “defamation” investigations

Singaporeans For Democracy (SFD) members Mr Seelan Palay 27, Mr Jarrod Luo 27 and Miss Rachel Zeng 28 were informed this week, 5 months after they were first summoned by the police, that investigations of the trio under section 502 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 under the Criminal Procedure Code 2010 (Act 15 of 2010) were completed and they were released from it.

The trio was investigated under the Penal Code section that relates to the “Sale of printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter, knowing it to contain such matter, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with both”. Read more »

Singaporeans For Democracy (SFD) calls on the Media Development Authority (MDA) to ban Once A Jolly Hangman: Singapore Justice in the Dock or assign it a classification that clearly and publicly indicates that the said book cannot be distributed or sold in Singapore.

Police investigate SFD members over death penalty book

Three members of Singaporeans For Democracy (SFD) are being investigated by the police over the sale of 12 copies of the book Once A Jolly Hangman: Singapore Justice in the Dock at a film screening at the Substation on 14 November 2010.

Mr Seelan Palay 27, Mr Jarrod Luo 27 and Miss Rachel Zeng 28 have been summoned to appear at the Major Crime Division of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 1130am on 27 January 2011. Read more »
